The nationalist Polish Government will not like it: Fidelio, Ludwig van Beethoven’s only opera – an homage to freedom and a strong expression of opposition to enslavement and political oppression – will be played by the Expat Philharmonic Orchestra in Gdansk, Poland, on 1 September.
The musicians come from Syria, Egypt, Palestine, Turkey, Ukraine and other places devoid of peace. They met in Europe to safely perform and play here together with Polish musicians under the baton of Julien Salemkour.
The concert is organized by the European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk, during the Solidarity of Arts Festival.
