The Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne has announced the appointment of French violinist and conductor Renaud Capuçon as Artistic Director of the orchestra as of the 2021-2022 season. He will succeed Joshua Weilerstein who will leave his position in the summer of 2021.
The press release says: « The OCL and Renaud Capuçon are driven by the same enthusiasm, which stems from previous collaborations and in particular from the concert given last March in a programme combining Beethoven, Schubert and Mozart. The Maestro aroused a real craze among the musicians during this concert, despite the fact that it had to be played behind closed doors and without an audience because of the COVID-19 epidemic. It was a real heartbreaker when both performances were sold out. No doubt that the public, who were nevertheless able to discover the television recording made by RTS, will be delighted to be able to see the Maestro again at the Salle Métropole from the start of the 2021 season. »
Renaud Capuçon will be responsible for concerts in Lausanne as well as on tour, for recordings and for the musical programming of the orchestra’s future seasons.
