French violinist Renaud Capuçon has been appointed as UNESCO Artist for Peace by the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Audrey Azoulay.
The violinist thus takes up the torch held by musicians who have put their fame at the service of UNESCO such as Yehudi Menuhin and Mstislav Rostropovitch, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors from 1992 to 1999 and 1998 to 2007 respectively, with whom he himself worked, UNESCO said in a press release.
In his capacity as Artist for Peace, Renaud Capuçon(*1976) has agreed to contribute to strengthening the visibility of UNESCO and to support its priorities and activities in favour of artistic and cultural education, the diversity of cultural expressions and the culture of peace.
UNESCO Artists for Peace are internationally renowned personalities who use their influence, charisma and prestige to promote the Organization’s message and programmes.
