Taichung Metropolitan Opera
The Taichung Metropolitan Opera House, which is to open on Sept. 30, will possibly run an annual deficit of NT$ 150 million (US$ 4.7 million), the National Audit Office said. This is an opera house in the 7th Metropolitan area of Taichung, Taiwan. The Taichung City Government just donated the Theater – designed by Pritzker Architecture Prize-winning Japanese architect Toyo Ito – to the Ministry of Culture. The office believes that the quality of performances should also be improved to appeal to a broader audience. Meanwhile politicians countered with the statement that the arts are not meant to be business endeavours, calling the office’s report ‘unbelievable.’
