2019, zum 350. Todestag von Pietro Antonio Cesti, wurde in Innsbruck, wo der Komponist lange tätig war, seine Verkleidungs- und Verwechslungskomödie La Dori aufgeführt. Ottavio Dantone hatte die extrem komplizierte Liebesgeschichte, die an den Ufern des Euphrat und am Hofe Babylons spielt, auf eine knapp dreistündige Fassung reduziert und dirigierte sie in einer rundum beglückenden Aufführung, die nun bei Naxos auf DVD erhältlich ist.

Stefano Vizioli hat die Oper in einer farbigen, fantasievollen und ständig passenden, d.h. nicht schockierenden, sondern sehr gefälligen Inszenierung auf die Bühne gebracht.

Viola Francesca Ascioti ist eine exzellente Sängerin und Darstellerin in der Rolle der leidgeprüften Dori. Ihre weitgestreckte Stimme reagiert sehr gut und hat auch ein sehr gefälliges Timbre.

Der britische Countertenor Rupert Enticknap (Orontes) begeistert mit feinem, charaktervollem Gesang. Seine insgesamt sehr präsente Stimme reagiert gut in allen Lagen und hat ein angenehmes Timbre.

Als Artaxerse beeindruckt der italienische Bass Federico Sacchi, während die junge Francesca Lombardi Mazzulli eine unmittelbar ansprechende und vokal wie schauspielerisch beeindruckende Arsinoe singt.

Der Tenor Alberto Allegrezza ist in der Frauenrolle der Dirce, der Krankenschwester des Orontes, komödiantisch hinreißend.

Die ungarische Sopranistin Emöke Barath beeindruckt als Tomoleo, und einen starken Eindruck machen auch der hervorragende Tenor Bradley Smith (Arsete), sowie Pietro Di Bianco (Erasto).

Ottavio Dantone besorgt an der Spitze seiner Accademia Bizantina einen opulenten wie auch ausdrucksvollen Ensembleklang. Die Ton- und Videoaufnahme ist vorzüglich.

In 2019, on the 350th anniversary of Pietro Antonio Cesti’s death, his opera La Dori, was performed in Innsbruck, where the composer had long been active. Ottavio Dantone reduced the extremely complicated love story, which takes place on the banks of the Euphrates and at the court of Babylon, to an almost three-hour version and conducted it in a delightful performance, which is now available on DVD from Naxos.
Stefano Vizioli staged the opera in a colourful, imaginative and always appropriate, i.e. not shocking, but very pleasing production.
Viola Francesca Ascioti is an excellent singer and performer in the role of the suffering Dori. Her wide-ranging voice reacts very well and has a very pleasing timbre.
The British countertenor Rupert Enticknap (Orontes) inspires with fine singing full of character. His overall very present voice reacts well in all registers and has a pleasant timbre.
The Italian bass Federico Sacchi impresses as Artaxerse, while the young Francesca Lombardi Mazzulli sings an immediately appealing, vocally and dramatically impressive Arsinoe.
The tenor Alberto Allegrezza is a great comedian in the female role of Dirce, the nurse of the Orontes.
The Hungarian soprano Emöke Barath impresses as Tomoleo, and the excellent tenor Bradley Smith (Arsete) and Pietro Di Bianco (Erasto) also make a strong impression.
Ottavio Dantone and his Accademia Bizantina provide an opulent and expressive ensemble playing. The sound and video recording is excellent.
