Marin Marais’ Tragédie lyrique Alcione ist ganz auf den Geschmack von Ludwig XIV. ausgerichtet, weil das Visuelle damals ebenso wichtig war wie die Musik. Jordi Savall dirigierte 2017 die erste Pariser Aufführung dieser Oper nach 1771. Von der inszenierten und choreographierten Aufführung bleibt auf diesem Album natürlich nur die Musik übrig.

Die Tragödie inspiriert sich am Mythos von Ceix und Alcyone aus Ovids Metamorphosen. Ceix, König der Trachinen, verliebt sich in Alcione, die Tochter des Gottes der Winde, und beschließt, sie zu heiraten. Aber er hat die Rechnung ohne die Götter gemacht und ohne seinen Freund Peleus, der ebenfalls in Alcione verliebt ist. Nach der Hochzeit des Paares folgen sich die Katastrophen. Alle wollen offenbar die beiden Liebenden trennen.

Mit einem guten Solistenensemble und seinem vorzüglichen Chor und Orchester gelingt Jordi Savall ein hinreißendes Revival der Oper. Die Sänger werden angeführt von Lea Desandre, die mit gewohnt guter Stimme eine sehr einfühlsame  Alcione singt. Der Tenor Cyril Auvity gestaltet sehr engagiert und mit flexibler Stimme die Rolle des Ceix. Marc Mauillon singt den Pélée sehr souverän. Die übrigen Rollen sind ausnahmslos gut besetzt, was ein ausgezeichnetes, harmonisches Ensemble ergibt.

Marin Marais’ Tragédie lyrique Alcione is entirely based on the taste of Louis XIV, because for him the visual aspect was as important as the music. In 2017 Jordi Savall conducted the opera’s first Parisian performance after 1771. Of course, this release only contains the music of the staged and choreographed performance.
The tragedy is inspired by the myth of Ceix and Alcyone from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Ceix, King of the Trachines, falls in love with Alcione, daughter of the God of the Winds, and decides to marry her. But the gods and his friend Peleus, who is also in love with Alcione, do not appreciate this liaison. After the couple’s wedding, disasters follow each other. It looks that everyone wants to separate the two lovers.
With very good singers and his excellent choir and orchestra, Jordi Savall succeeds in a ravishing revival of the opera. The ensemble is led by Lea Desandre, who sings a very sensitive Alcione with her usual good voice. The tenor Cyril Auvity performs the role of Ceix with great commitment and a flexible voice. Marc Mauillon sings the Pélée very confidently. The other roles are without exception well cast, which results in an excellent, harmonious ensemble.
