Czech conductor Robert Jindra, 47, resigned from his position as Music Director of the Kosice State Philharmonic. This resignation comes just several days after Jindra’s criticism of Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová.
Jindra commented the minister’s recent dismissals of the directors of the National Gallery and the National Museum who are among those who have criticised the minister’s actions regarding public media and culture, which many believe to be autocratic attempts to control the cultural landscape in Slovakia.
Robert Jindra had been the chief conductor in Kosice for the past three years.
