Brazilian conductor Roberto Tibiriça, 68, has been appointed as Music Director of the Parana Symphony Orchestra, based at Teatro Guaíra, in Curitiba, the capital city of the southern Brazilian state of Parana. Tibiriça replaces German conductor Stefan Geiger, who held the position from 2016 to 2020.
In the late 1990s, Tibiriça was artistic director of the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira (OSB), in Rio de Janeiro, and from 2000 to 2003 he worked as artistic director of the Orquestra Sinfônica Petrobras Pró-Música (current Opes, Petrobras Symphony Orchestra). Between 2010 and 2013 he was the Music Director of the Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra.
