After Milan and Munich, Rotterdam too is asking from Russian conductor Valery Gergiev to distance himself from the actions of Russian President Putin, or he will no longer be welcome in Rotterdam. The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra announced this in a statement.
« The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the board of Rotterdam Philharmonic Festivals (organizer of the Gergiev Festival) have noted with dismay the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In the event that Valery Gergiev does not openly distance himself from President Putin’s actions in Ukraine, we will be forced to cancel concerts with him. The Gergiev Festival in September will also be cancelled, » the orchestra announced.
