According to rumours circulating since several weeks the French Ministry of Culture has chosen the German Alexander Neef as Stéphane Lissner’s successor at the National Opera in Paris. Neef will take office in August 2021.
Lissner, who had been at the helm of the opera house since 2014, will leave his position as soon as his term ends and Alexander Neef will succeed him in 2021, accompanied by a new deputy director, Martin Ajdari.
Alexander Neef, 45, is currently director of the Toronto Opera Company (the Canadian Opera Company). From 2004 to 2008 he worked as a stage manager, under the direction of Gerard Mortier, then director of the Paris Opera.
