The 32-year-old American conductor Ryan Bancroft has been appointed Chief Conductor of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. He begins his tenure from the 2023/24 season.
Ryan Bancroft debuted with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in 2019. He first came to international attention the previous year, when he won both First Prize and Audience Prize at the Malko Competition for Young Conductors in Copenhagen.
Bancroft’s first performance as Chief Conductor Designate will be the prestigious Nobel Prize Concert on Wednesday 8 December 2021, 19.00 CET. The concert will be available to watch worldwide via the Nobel Prize YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/kvvQgjDhpzw.
Bancroft is the successor of Sakari Oramo who was ended his tenure after 13 years at the end of the 20/21 season.
