Ivan Fischer geht den irdischen Weg. Keine weihevolle Religiosität, sondern schwungvolle, dezidierte Kraft im ersten Satz, die der Komposition das Nachdenkliche und die stellenweise feine Poesie freilich nicht nimmt. Das alerte und kraftstrotzende Scherzo mit seinen verspielten Nebenthemen und dem nicht weniger verspielten und quicklebendigen Trio führt die Werksicht konsequent weiter.
Das Adagio bleibt recht sachlich. Es gibt keine Überbetonung schmerzlicher Klänge und leider kommt auch die innere Zerrissenheit der Musik nicht so packend zum Ausdruck als in anderen Interpretationen.
Generell ist diese Neunte Bruckner kräftig konturiert, großzügig eingefärbt mit vorwiegend hellen Farben, und sehr detailreich. Für mich kann sie sich aber keinen Platz im Spitzenfeld erobern.
Ivan Fischer takes the earthly path. No consecrated religiosity, but a swinging, determined power in the first movement, which of course does not take away the thoughtfulness and the subtle poetry of the composition. The alert and vigorous Scherzo with its playful secondary themes and the no less playful and lively Trio consistently continue this perspective.
The Adagio remains quite matter-of-fact. There is no overemphasis of painful sounds and, unfortunately, the inner turmoil of the music is not expressed as grippingly as in other interpretations.
In general, this Bruckner Ninth is powerfully contoured, generously colored with predominantly bright colors, and very rich in detail. For me, however, it cannot claim a place in the top tier.
