The Salzburg Festival will take place in August this year in a significantly slimmed-down form, official sources say. The big programme planned for this year to celebrate the 100th anniversary will be postponed until 2021.
Due to the minimum safety distances of at least one meter prescribed for public spaces such as orchestra pits, many of the Festival’s projected performances cannot be realized or would take place in front of a minimal audience.
Until 25 May, the directorate will elaborate a small program able to meet the requirements of the legislation. The newly compiled programme for the summer is to be published in June.
