Born in the US State of Kansas in 1942, bass-baritone Samuel Ramey is faithful to his roots. In Wichita, Kansas’s largest city, the Directors of the Grand Opera announced today that Ramey has been named to a newly-created position to serve as Wichita Grand Opera Ambassador and Artistic Advisor, effective as of November 1, 2016, for a two-year period.
In addition, the Wichita Grand Opera is establishing The Samuel Ramey Program which includes three high-priority initiatives to take the WGO to its next phase. After sixteen years since its founding by Margaret Ann Pent, it is her goal and objective to increase the impact and influence of the WGO for the City of Wichita, the region, and nationally.
Samuel Ramey will take an active leadership role in building relationships and new collaborations to increase opera audiences and benefit the community, while sharing in the WGO’s artistic vision. In collaboration with his WGO colleagues, Mr. Ramey plans to focus on these three initiatives: Opera Across Kansas, Opera Academy of the Midwest and Wichita Opera Business Alliance.
