Because of ‘different views’ about the San Diego Opera’s future, the Board has placed Ian Campbell, the longtime general and artistic director on indefinite leave effective immediately. He will continue to receive his full pay and benefits. The same occurs for Campbell’s ex-wife, Ann Spira Campbell, the opera’s deputy general director and chief fundraiser, who has also been asked to step away from the company.
