The San Diego Symphony and Music Director Rafael Payare will play again in its renamed downtown concert hall, following an extensive $125 million renovation that began in 2021. Construction problems led to a one-year delay in the originally planned reopening of the 95-year-old venue formerly known as Copley Symphony Hall. It is reamed after the Jacobs family, the symphony’s biggest benefactor.
The plan was to improve acoustics, build an elevated choral terrace, design new audio, visual and lighting systems, new aisles and seats angled to face the stage while conserving much of the historic hall.
