According to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Francisco Symphony and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music have ‘paused’ their commn Emerging Black Composers Project, due to instructions from the AH Trumps Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights that directed schools to eliminate diversity efforts or risk losing federal funding.
The now cancelled project was set up to lower some of the barriers Black composers face in establishing their careers by awarding annual winners a $15,000 commissioning fee.
As the Trump administration fights diversity, this fight is an expression of white supremacy and their protection.
Now, there is hope that the San Francisco Symphony or the Oakland Symphony which are not impacted by AH Trump’s disastrous Executive Order will continue the project without the Conservatory.
