Ich habe etliche Lieblingsaufnahmen von Schuberts Müllerin. Und jetzt kommt noch eine hinzu. Diese Aufnahme besitzt eigentlich alles, was Die Schöne Müllerin ausmacht: Natürlichkeit, Poesie, das Gefühl für das Wort, Volkstümlichkeit und große Liedkunst verbinden sich zu einem homogenen Ganzen, was man in dieser Form eigentlich recht selten findet.
Ein absoluter Gewinn ist die Klavierbegleitung von Julius Drake. Drake und Finley zeigen sich als präzise aufeinander eingespieltes Team, wo jeder weiß, was der andere will und sich somit auch spontan anpassen kann. Drakes Spiel hat den Vorteil, dass der Pianist Erkenntnisse der historischen Aufführungspraxis miteinfließen lässt und z.T. sehr stark akzentuiert. Finleys Gesang ist stilsicher und sehr natürlich. Nirgendwo wird überinterpretiert, der Fluss der Musik wird in jedem Moment gewahrt, sowohl im Gesang wie auch in der Liedbegleitung. Eine Meisterleistung in vorzüglichem Klanggewand.
I have quite a few favorite recordings of Schubert’s Müllerin. And now there is one more. This recording actually has everything that makes Die Schöne Müllerin special: Naturalness, poetry, the feeling for the word, folksiness and great song art combine into a homogeneous whole, which is actually quite rare to find in this form.
An absolute asset is the piano accompaniment by Julius Drake. Drake and Finley show themselves to be a precisely attuned team, where each knows what the other wants and can thus adapt spontaneously. Drake’s playing has the advantage that the pianist incorporates insights from historical performance practice and sometimes accentuates them very strongly. Finley’s singing is stylish and very natural. Nowhere is there overinterpretation, the flow of the music is preserved at every moment, both in the singing and in the song accompaniment. A masterly performance in exquisite sound recording.
