In 2019, the Seiji Ozawa Music Academy will present Bizet’s Carmen. The Academy Orchestra will comprise young musicians who passed rigorous auditions in Japan, China, Taiwan, and Korea. Japanese conductor Seiji Ozawa, 83, says: « Performing an opera alongside a successful world-class director and singers under the guidance of coaches will be an amazing experience for them. »
Four performances are planned in Kyoto, Yokosukua and Tokyo. The stage director is David Kneuss. Sandra Piques Eddy will sing the titel role, with Chad Shelton as Don José. The Acadey Orchestra vwill be conducted by Christian Arming and Seiji Ozawa.
