Die CD Sagas enthält ein selten aufgeführtes und selten aufgenommenes Programm mit einigen Melodramen sowie Kammermusikstücken.Mit fast 23 Minuten ist die Version von En Saga für Septett (Streichquintett, Flöte, Klarinette) das längste Stück des Programms. Es ist in einer spannenden, kraftvoll pulsierenden und extrem farbigen Interpretation zu hören, die gleichzeitig das Melodische betont und so sehr eindringlich wird.
Die Melodramen wurden bis auf eine Ausnahme nur in Französische Übertragung aufgenommen und bloß Eine einsame Schispur ist auch in der schwedischen Originalsprache zu hören. Nun zeigt sich gerade darin sehr gut, wie anders doch die Stimme klingt, wenn schwedisch gesprochen wird, viel weniger preziös und affektiert als im Französischen. Nun liegt das nicht am Text sondern am Sprecher Vincent Figuri, der die Texte allzu gefühlvoll und pathetisch werden lässt. Und so muss ich die rein instrumentale Version von Das Porträt der Prinzessin bei weitem vorziehen, weil in dieser Interpretation die Qualität der Streicher von Calliopée bestens zum Ausdruck kommt.
Dass das Booklet der CD nur französische Beiträge enthält ist unverständlich. Die Tonaufnahme ist gut und fein ausbalanciert.
The CD Sagas contains a rarely performed and rarely recorded program with some melodramas as well as chamber music pieces.
At almost 23 minutes, the version of En Saga for septet (string quintet, flute, clarinet) is the longest piece on the program. It can be heard in an exciting, powerfully pulsating and extremely colorful interpretation, which at the same time emphasizes the melodic and thus becomes very haunting.
With one exception, the melodramas were recorded only in French transcription, and only A Lonely Ski-Trail is also heard in the original Swedish. Now it shows very well how different the voice sounds in Swedish, much less pretentious and affected than in French. Now this is not due to the lyrics but to the speaker Vincent Figuri, who makes the lyrics all too emotional and pathetic. And so I have to prefer by far the purely instrumental version of The Portrait of the Princess, because in this interpretation the quality of Calliopée’s strings is expressed at its best.
That the booklet of the CD contains only French contributions is incomprehensible. The sound recording is good and finely balanced.
