The Czech Philharmonic’s Chief Conductor and Music Director Semyon Bychkov has had to undergo back surgery which will require four weeks of recovery, the orchestra says.

He will return to the podium at the end of the October. To replace him, Charles Dutoit will conduct the 129th Season Opening Concerts. Taking over the first subscription week of concerts will be Polish-German conductor Marek Janowski.
