Johann Baptist Cramer (1771-1858), ein englischer Musiker deutscher Abstammung, war ein sehr bekannter Pianist, ein anerkannter Komponist, ein guter Pädagoge und in London auch als Unternehmer im Klavierbau und als Musikverleger erfolgreich.

Howard Shelley und die Londoner Mozart-Spieler hatten bereits 2002 erfolgreich Cramers Klavierkonzerte Nr. 2, 7 & 8 aufgenommen. Die Einspielungen der Nummern 4 und 5 sind nicht weniger erfolgreich. Sicher, die beiden Werke sind Beethoven sehr nahe, aber nicht ganz so charakteristisch und nachhaltig. Dennoch sind sie durchaus interessant anzuhören.

Howard Shelley hat ein gutes Gespür für die Musik Cramers und macht sie mit einem gut elaborierten Spiel rhetorisch und daher auch wirklich attraktiv.

Das Klangbild der Aufnahme ist bestens ausgewogen.

Howard Shelley and the London Mozart players had already successfully recorded Cramer’s Piano Concertos No. 2, 7 & 8 in 2002. The recordings of numbers 4 and 5 are no less successful. Of course, the two works are very close to Beethoven, but not as characteristic and lasting. Nevertheless, they are quite interesting to listen to.mHoward Shelley has a good sense for Cramer’s music and makes it rhetorical and therefore really attractive with a well elaborated playing. The sound of the recording is well balanced.
