The Czech Philharmonic today named Simon Rattle their next Principal Guest Conductor. As part of the five-year appointment, Sir Simon was also named the Rafael Kubelík Conducting Chair.
Rattle takes up the post alongside Music Director Semyon Bychkov, who said, “I have always believed that if I surround myself and my orchestra with exceptional people, we will be able to move ahead constantly and continue to grow. I am enormously pleased that Simon has agreed to become a part of the Czech Philharmonic family and will regularly bring to Prague his talent and vitality.”
Rattle is currently Chief Conductor of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, and Conductor Laureate of the London Symphony Orchestra.
Following eight years as Music Director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, he held the position of Chief Conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker from 2002-18.
