And here is another violin competition. The National Arts Council and National University of Singapore are launching the Singapore International Violin Competition. The event, scheduled to take place between 10 and 21 January 2015, offers a first prize of $50,000, international professional engagements and introductions to leading artist agencies.
Applications are now open for entrants aged between 17 and 30. Shortlisted competitors will be flown to Singapore in January for four live rounds before an international jury of nine members, chaired by Yong Siew Toh Conservatory head of strings, Qian Zhou, and including French violinist Pierre Amoyal and Vermeer Quartet founder Shmuel Ashkenasi.
Twelve competitors will perform a full recital in the semi-final and six finalists will perform a Mozart concerto with the Conservatory Orchestra at Singapore’s Victoria Concert Hall. For full details visit www.singaporeviolincompetition.com
