After a first successful experience during the Vivid Festival, the Sydney Opera House wants to play host to ‘sleep-overs’ if a recently lodged development application is approved. The Opera House wants permission to give 100 guests two nights’ accommodation once a year.
The proposal involves the temporary conversion of a number of rooms and spaces within the Opera House that are currently occupied by offices or foyers. The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) said « it wants to provide a unique opportunity for the community to experience the iconic Sydney Opera House in new and innovative ways ». Yet, there is probably no opera house in the world, where visitors would not have slept…during the performance.
