The Brazilian soprano Laura de Souza died last Saturday at the age of 64 from cancer. She was one of the main Brazilian singers of the last decades. Graduated in Rio Grande do Sul, Laura de Souza moved to Europe, where she completed her studies in Hamburg, Paris, and Milan.
Between 1991 and 1998, she was a permanent member of the Staatstheater Kassel and the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, in Germany. In Brazil, she sang in the main theaters and with the main orchestras a broad repertoire and specialized in Wagner roles.
She was one of the founders of the Rio Grande do Sul Opera Company.
