Japanese conductor Morihiko Nakahara, 45, has renewed his contract with the South Carolina Philharmonic through the 2024-2025 season, a news release says. Nakahara joined the orchestra as music director in 2008.
Born in Kagoshima, Japan, Nakahara was formerly Resident Conductor of the Spokane Symphony and Music Director of the Holland Symphony Orchestra in Holland, Michigan.
In 2017, Nakahara was named Assistant Professor and Director of Orchestral Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Department of Music where he leads the UMass Symphony Orchestra.
