Autum Equinox des 1972 geborenen Sebastian Fagerlund ist ein Oktett für Klarinette, Fagott, Horn, zwei Violinen, Viola, Violoncello und Kontrabass. Das Oktett beginnt mit einem sehr rhythmischen und energetischen Satz, dem ein ruhiger und geheimnisvoll klingender Mittelsatz folgt, ehe das rhythmische Element wieder Oberhand gewinnt. Es ist ein Werk mit einer üppigen Mischung aus Farben, zweifellos nordisch, mit teils schroffen, teils weiten Klanglandschaften. Die Interpretation ist elektrisierend.
Nicht weniger spannend und ausdrucksvoll ist das Konzert für Kontrabass und Orchester Arcantio, das trotz düsterer Färbung und einer mysteriös ruhigen Entwicklung dem Kontrabass die Gelegenheit zu einem nachdenklichen Gesang gibt.
Das motorisch-minimalistische Stück Sky II mit drängend pulsierenden Streichern und flirrenden Klängen der Holzbläser beendet das Album effektvoll.
Autum Equinox by Sebastian Fagerlund, born 1972, is an octet for clarinet, bassoon, horn, two violins, viola, cello and double bass.
The octet begins with a very rhythmic and energetic movement, followed by a quiet and mysterious middle movement, before the rhythmic element regains the upper hand. It is a work with a rich mixture of colors, undoubtedly Nordic, with sometimes rough, sometimes expansive soundscapes. The interpretation is electrifying.
No less exciting and expressive is the Concerto for Double Bass and Orchestra Arcantio, which, despite its dark colors and mysteriously quiet development, gives the double bass the opportunity to sing thoughtfully.
The motoric, minimalist Sky II, with its urgently pulsating strings and shimmering woodwinds, brings the album to a powerful close.
