Als ich den Titel The Intimacy of Distance las, dachte ich, Robert Groslot sei für diese Komposition von der Corona-Pandemie inspiriert worden. Weit gefehlt! Das Werk des 1951 geborenen Belgiers entstand bereits 2019 auf einen deutschen und vier englische Texte von Elisa Nathalie Heine, die sich um die Distanz unter verschiedenen Gesichtspunkten drehen. Zu den starken Texten hat Groslot eine starke, atmosphärische und oft aufgewühlte Musik komponiert, deren Solopart von Charlotte Wajnberg virtuos gesungen wird.
Die Tondichtung My Green Shade Forest beschreibt den Wald, durch den Groslot den Wanderer führt, zunächst noch transparent, dann immer dichter und entsprechend klanglich reicher, mit allem was im Walde kreucht und fleucht.
Trittico incantevole ist eine Komposition von 2017, komponiert als Hommage an den Maler Peter Paul Rubens, in dessen Bildern Groslot vor allem viel Bewegung und extrem viel Klarheit sieht. Das inspirierte ihn zu einer bewegungs- und kontrastreichen, stimmungsvollen und spannenden Musik, die evokativ und realistisch genug ist, um den Geist des Hörers zu beflügeln.
Hervorragende Interpretationen des Brussels Philharmonic runden den positiven Eindruck dieser Produktion ab.
When I read the title The Intimacy of Distance, I thought Robert Groslot was inspired by the Corona Pandemic for this composition. Far from it! The Belgian composer’s work was written back in 2019 on one German ad four English texts by Elisa Nathalie Heine, all of which revolve around distance from different points of view. To accompany the powerful texts, Groslot has composed a strong, atmospheric and often agitated music, whose solo part is virtuously sung by Charlotte Wajnberg.
The tone poem My Green Shade Forest describes the forest through which Groslot leads the wanderer, at first still transparent, then increasingly dense and correspondingly richer in sound, like depicting everything that crawls and flies in the forest.
Trittico incantevole is a composition from 2017, composed as a tribute to the painter Peter Paul Rubens, in whose paintings Groslot sees above all a lot of movement and an extreme clarity. This inspired him to create music rich in movement and contrast, atmospheric and exciting, evocative and realistic enough to lift the listener’s spirit.
Excellent interpretations by the Brussels Philharmonic round out the positive impression of this production.
