The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra closed its fiscal year 2016-17with an operating surplus of $18,000, the SLSO has announced.
The orchestra’s press release shows tremendous figures for the attendance. Over a quarter-million people heard the SLSO at Powell Symphony Hall and elsewhere, with a total of 219 concerts that included 88 free events. Almost one-third of the classical concert audiences were first-timers. 23 concerts were sold-out. Over 23,400 students attended education concerts at the hall.
The orchestra is now looking with confidence into the future, after the appointment of Stéphane Denève as successor of David Robertson who will conclude his tenure at the end of the 2017-2018 season. Moreover, a new five-year contract with the musicians was reached seven months ahead of schedule, and will run through Aug. 28, 2022.
