Das Milano Saxophone Quartet spielt auf dieser CD Skylines zunächst Ciudades, also Städte, von Guillermo Lago, dem kompositorischen Alter Ego des niederländischen Saxophonisten Willem van Merwijk. Ciudades ist in seiner ursprünglichen dreiteiligen Fassung dem Amstel Quartett gewidmet, das diese drei Stücke auch aufgenommen hat. Heute sind drei weitere Städte zu Córdoba, Sarajevo und Addis Ababa hinzugekommen, und zwar Montevideo, Köln und Tokyo, die das Milano Saxophone Quartet virtuos und tonmalerisch spielt.
In dem Stück Tre Quadri, das dem Milano Saxophone Quartet gewidmet ist, beschreibt der Komponist Pepito Ros drei Szenen: Der Blick aus dem Fenster, Die Rettung des Mädchens, Der Kampf für die Freiheit. Es ist ein emotionales, sehr farbiges und spannendes Werk, das in dieser Interpretation ganz hervorragend klingt.
Die Milano Suite des Niederländers Maarten de Splenter ist ein munteres, phantasievolles Werk, das sehr musikantisch und vital dargeboten wird, bestens bedient von der herausragenden technischen Qualität der vier Mailänder Musiker.
On this CD, the Milano Saxophone Quartet first plays Skylines Ciudades, or Cities, by Guillermo Lago, the compositional alter ego of Dutch saxophonist Willem van Merwijk. Ciudades, in its original three-part version, is dedicated to the Amstel Quartet, which also recorded these three pieces. Today, three more cities have been added to Córdoba, Sarajevo and Addis Ababa, namely Montevideo, Cologne and Tokyo, which the Milano Saxophone Quartet plays with virtuosity and tone painting.
In the piece Tre Quadri, dedicated to the Milano Saxophone Quartet, the composer Pepito Ros describes three scenes: The View from the Window, The Rescue of the Girl, The Fight for Freedom. It is an emotional, very colorful and exciting work, which sounds quite excellent in this interpretation.
The Milano Suite by the Dutch Maarten de Splenter is a lively, imaginative work, presented in a very musical and vital way, well served by the outstanding technical quality of the four Milanese musicians.
