Der 1960 geborene amerikanische Hornist Kerry Turner hat neben seinen Aktivitäten als Orchestermusiker beim Philharmonischen Orchester Luxemburg und im American Horn Quartet immer auch gerne Musik für sein Instrument komponiert.

Bei Naxos ist jetzt Vol.1 seiner kompletten Werke für Horn herausgekommen. Das Programm ist abwechslungsreich und vielfältig und zeigt Turner als einen einfallsreichen und weltoffenen Komponisten, der Einflüsse aus vielen Ländern und Stilrichtungen aufsaugt und in einer eigenen Tonsprache verdichtet. Alle Stücke sind leicht zugänglich, ungemein fantasievoll und handwerklich erstklassig komponiert.

Das Programm, das so viel Eleganz und Charme wie akrobatische Pirouetten, so viel Emotion wie Wärme erfordert, wird nicht nur  Liebhaber von Hornmusik begeistern.

Die Aufführungen sind von hohem musikalischem Niveau, und die Aufnahme ist perfekt ausbalanciert. Die CD ist somit ein vielversprechender Auftakt einer Reihe, die wohl noch weitere wertvolle Entdeckungen bringen wird.

Born in 1960, the American horn player Kerry Turner has always enjoyed composing music for his instrument in addition to his activities with the Luxembourg Philharmonic and the American Horn Quartet.
Naxos has now released Vol. 1 of his complete works for horn. The program is varied and diverse and shows Turner as an imaginative and cosmopolitan composer having absorbed influences from many countries and styles which he condenses into his own musical language. All the pieces are easily accessible, incredibly imaginative and composed with first-class craftsmanship.
The programme, which requires as much elegance and charm as virtuoso pirouettes, as much emotion as warmth, will not only inspire lovers of horn music.
The performances are of the highest musical standard and the recording is perfectly balanced. The CD is thus a promising start to a series that will probably bring further valuable discoveries.
