The Spartanburg Philharmonic has announced Stefan Sanders as the next music director. He is the successor of Sarah Ioannides who held the post for 12 years, starting in 2005. Based in Spartanburg, South Carolina (175 miles north-east from Atlanta), the Spartanburg Philharmonic was founded in 1928.
Stefan Sanders, 41, is a native of Austin, Texas, who currently serves as music director of the Fayetteville (N.C.) Symphony Orchestra and the Round Rock (Texas) Symphony. He’s also in his fifth and final season as resident conductor of JoAnn Falletta’s Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and is the principal conductor and music advisor for the Hot Springs (Ark.) International Music Festival.
