The Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra (California) has announced that its Music Director Stilian Kirov has signed a five-year contract to remain with the BSO through 2026.
Kirov, 37, who is also the music director of the Symphony in C in New Jersey and the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, began his tenure with the BSO in the 2015-16 season after the departure of longtime conductor John Farrer.
The Bulgarian-born conductor holds a master’s degree from the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, and is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music conducting program under James DePriest. As pianist he was the gold medalist of the 2001 Claude Kahn International Piano Competition in Paris.
