Wenn Bob Chilcott für Chor schreibt, dann kommt die Musik aus berufener Feder. Als langjähriges, ehemaliges Mitglied der King’s Singers kennt Chilcott das Genre in all seinen Facetten wie kein Zweiter.
Die eigenen Erfahrungen als Chorsänger, die Klangvielfalt und – Farben des renommierten Ensembles hinterlassen ihre Spuren in Chilcotts eigenen Kompositionen, die sofort ansprechen, ohne beliebig zu wirken.
Die Herausforderung, diese Musik auf den Punkt in Klang und Emotionen umzusetzen, meistert der NFM-Chor unter Agnieszka Frankow-Zelazny ohne Fehl und Tadel.
Der einnehmende, gleichermaßen homogene und differenzierte Chorklang gibt perfekt den Inhalt der beiden Zyklen Canticles of Light und Move him into the Sun wieder. Es ist Chorgesang eben voller Licht, mit Stimmen, die von innen strahlen mit berührenden Kontrastmomenten wie etwa dem stillen Cello-Lamento in Christi qui splendor et dies. Überhaupt – Splendor, Glanz, Strahlkraft steht durchaus programmatisch für den Vortrag des NFM Choir, oder, um einen anderen Liedtitel – O nata lux de lumine – zu paraphrasieren, wäre in diesem Fall bloß zu sagen: O nata vox de lumine.
When Bob Chilcott writes for choir, the music comes from an appointed pen. As a long-time, former member of the King’s Singers, Chilcott knows the genre in all its facets like no other.
His own experiences as a chorister, the variety and color of sound of the renowned ensemble leave their mark on Chilcott’s own compositions, which immediately appeal without seeming arbitrary.
The challenge of translating this music to the point in sound and emotion is mastered by the NFM Choir under Agnieszka Frankow-Zelazny without fault.
The engaging, equally homogeneous and differentiated choral sound perfectly reflects the content of the two cycles Canticles of Light and Move him into the Sun. It is choral singing full of light, with voices that radiate from within with touching moments of contrast such as the quiet cello lamento in Christi qui splendor et dies. In general – splendor, radiance, radiance stands programmatically for the performance of the NFM Choir, or, to paraphrase another song title – O nata lux de lumine – in this case one would simply say: O nata vox de lumine.
