Strong rumours are currently circulating about a possible nomination of Emmanuel Krivine, 68, as successor to Daniele Gatti as Music Director of the Paris based Orchestre National de France (ONF).
Gatti is at this post since 2008 and will become Mariss Janson’s successor at the Concertgebouw Orkest in Amsterdam in September 2016. ONF had no French conductor as Music Director since 1973, when Jean Martinon left and was replaced only in 1977 by Lorin Maazel.
Krivine was Music Director of the Orchestre National de Lyon until 2000, later Music Director of the Luxembourg Phil (until 2015). In 2013, he became principal guest conductor of the Barcelona Symphony and Catalonia National Orchestra, with a contract through the 2015-2016 season. In May 2014, Krivine was named the next principal guest conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, effective September 2015, for an initial period of 4 years. He is also Music Director of the Chambre Philharmonique in France.
Further rumours say that Krivine will conduct the ONF on tour, next summer.
