Die Mezzosopranistin Lea Desandre und der Lautenist Thomas Dunford sind zivil ein Paar und im Musikleben ein Duo, das immer wieder fasziniert. Auf diesem Album interpretieren sie französische Liebeslieder und Instrumentalstücke aus drei Jahrhunderten. Für den Hörer birgt das Programm viel Abwechslung mit absolut köstlichen Momenten wie in Messagers J’ai deux amants oder Charpentiers Auprès du feu on fait l’amour. Aber vor allem sind es die Lieder, die das Idyllische, das Zärtliche in der Liebe zeigen, die das Herz des Zuhörers schmelzen lassen. Das ist pures Glück, eine kunstvoll beseelte Sublimierung von Liebesglück.
Desandres technische Sicherheit, ihre Kunst der farblichen Nuancen und des dynamischen Raffinements ergeben eine seltene emotionale Tiefe.
Ihre fein geführte Mezzostimme – mal sopranhell, mal dunkel – erlaubt ihr eine verblüffende Wandlungsfähigkeit, die jedem Lied seinen ganz eigenen Charakter gibt und diese Sammlung unvergesslich lassen lässt als eine der schönsten Produktionen des Jahres. Daran führt nichts vorbei. Es gilt nur Haltmachen und sich bezaubern lassen.
Mezzo-soprano Lea Desandre and lutenist Thomas Dunford are a couple in civilian life and a duo in performances that never cease to fascinate. On this album they interpret French love songs and instrumental pieces from three centuries. For the listener, the program holds much variety with absolutely delicious moments as in Messager’s J’ai deux amants or Charpentier’s Auprès du feu on fait l’amour. But above all, it is the songs that show the idyllic, the tender in love that melt the listener’s heart. This is pure happiness, an artfully animated sublimation of the happiness of love.
Desandre’s technical assurance, her art of color nuance and dynamic refinement yield a rare emotional depth.
Her finely controlled mezzo voice – sometimes soprano-bright, sometimes dark – allows her a startling versatility that gives each song its own unique character and leaves this collection unforgettable as one of the finest productions of the year. There’s no getting around it. The only thing to do is to stop and let yourself be enchanted.
