The Finnish conductor Susanna Mälkki, 48, has been awarded the Nordic Council Music Prize 2017. The Adjudication Committee wrote: “Susanna Mälkki is a versatile and dedicated maestro of both the classical and contemporary repertoire. Having forged her own path through the world of classical music, she now ranks among the top international conductors. »
Since Susanna Mälkki is currently in the United States, the prize was accepted on her behalf by her brother, Mikko Mälkki, from former winner Pekka Kuusisto at yesterday’s award ceremony in Finlandia Hall, Helsinki. Susanna Mälkki is Chief Conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
