The young French conductor Swann Van Rechem, 25, won the 58th Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors. He won all the prizes up for grabs this year: the Grand Prix, the Audience Prize and the Prize given by the Orchestre National d’Ile-de-France, which each of the 3 finalists conducted in the finals.
During the final, Swann Van Rechem, South Korea’s Hae Lee and China’s Chao Dong took to the stage at Besançon’s Théâtre Ledoux, conducting the Orchestre Orchestre National d’Ile-de-France in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, Richard Strauss’s Don Juan by Richard Strauss and a world premiere by Alexandros Markeas, commissioned by the competition.
