22-year-old Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski has been appointed Music Director of the Orchestre national du Capitole in Toulouse, the city’s mayor announced. He succeeds Tugan Sokhiev. Peltokoski’s contract runs from September 2024 through the 2028/2029 season.
Born in 2000, Tarmo Peltokoski studied conducting, composition and arrangement at the Sibellius Academy in Helsinki, notably Jukka-Pekka Saraste and Esa-Pekka Salonen. He is also a successful pianist. This year he began his tenure as musical and artistic director of the National Symphony Orchestra of Latvia and was appointed in September principal guest conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Rotterdam.
