50 candidates out of more than 100 applicants from 29 countries will participate in the fifth edition of the ‘Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition’ in San Marino, 20 to 28 September 2013. Some significant innovations will mark this edition. For the first time, the Competition, organized and promoted by the Renata Tebaldi Foundation, will distinguish between Ancient/Baroque Repertoire and Opera as interpretive areas in which the candidates are required to compete. This choice will bring to light the best performing skills of each singer, allowing the international juries – one for each section – to find out the best talents in the context of a rendition consistent with the candidates’ training.
Thus, the event will be divided into two parts. The first, from 20 to 22 September, will involve the competitors presenting an Ancient and Baroque repertoire, while the second, from 24 to 28 September, will focus on the candidates of Opera with a programme from Mozart to the whole 20th century.
There will be two concerts with orchestra, one for each section of the competition. On 22 September, for the Ancient and Baroque repertoire, the finalists will be accompanied by the Baroque Orchestra of the Conservatory Bruno Maderna of Cesena. On 28 September, the traditional concert of the finalists of the Opera section will take place at the Teatro Nuovo of Dogana. The singers will be accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of San Marino directed by Edoardo Müller.
Didier de Cottignies, with Gloria Banditelli, Anne Blanchard, Brian Dickie and Vincenzo De Vivo, will preside over the jury of the Ancient and Baroque section.
Gerard Mortier, the present Artistic Director of the Teatro Real of Madrid, will head the jury of the Opera section. He will be helped by Elizabeth Norberg-Schulz, Brian Dickie, Edoardo Müller and Gianni Tangucci.
