Rumours were circulating since weeks, now it is official: Russian-Greek conductor Teodor Currentzis steps down as Artistic Director of the Perm Opera. The house did not give any information about the reason, but it is generally assumed that financial and operational problems led to the resignation. It is said that Currentzis, who is also Music Director of the SWR Symphony Orchestra in Stuttgart, wants to focus on leading his orchestra and chorus, musicAeterna.
Teodor Currentzis will remain artistic director of Perm’s International Diaghilev Festival. As of 2021 this festival will extend to the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
