Following the resigning of Vladimir Ashkenazy, the European Union Youth Orchestra announced today that Vasily Petrenko and Bernard Haitink take up new positions with the Orchestra. Vasily Petrenko (no relation with Kirill, the new boss at Berlin Phil) will take up the position of Chief Conductor of the Orchestra in September 2015 and Bernard Haitink is appointed as Conductor Laureate of the EUYO with immediate effect.
Vasily Petrenko, Chief Conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, and Principal Guest Conductor Mikhailovsky Theatre St Petersburg, has established an impressive relationship with the Orchestra over a number of years.
