Czech conductor Thomas Hanus has extended his contract with the Welsh National Opera in Cardiff, the organization announced. Hanus has been a music director since the 2016/2017 season, and his contract will now run through the 2025/2026 season.
Hanus was born in Brno, Czech Republic in 1970. He studied conducting at the Janacek Academy of Music and Drama in Brno from Jiri Belohlavek. He won the International Conductor Competition in Katowice in 1999. In 2001 he debuted at the Prague State Opera as an opera conductor. Since then, he has been conducting at opera houses around Europe and was the music director of the Brno State Opera from 2007 to 2009.
