Thomas Sanderling
In protest against the Russian aggression on Ukraine, Thomas Sanderling has announced his resignation as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra.
The press release says: « Following the recent aggression of Russia on Ukraine, and especially the violent bombing of Ukrainian cities and growth of totalitarianism in Russia I unfortunately felt to resign from the position of the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra with immediate effect. This decision has been very painful for me, as I was born in Novosibirsk and felt a strong relation with the Orchestra. »
Thomas Sanderling was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra in 2007 and from August 2017 he was its Artistic Director and Principal Conductor.
