The Geneva Chamber Orchestra has announced the appointment of Raphaël Merlin as Artistic and Musical Director of the orchestra to succeed Arie van Beek. The the young conductor Holly Hyun Choe and Gabor Takacs-Nagy have been named Associate Conductors. These appointments will be effective from the 2023-24 season.
The press release says: « Following the departure of Arie van Beek after nine years as artistic and musical director, the OCG has found in Raphaël Merlin the embodiment of a high quality artistic conception and an innovative vision of classical music. As conductor and cellist of the world-famous Quatuor Ebène, and as a musician with an irrepressible musical intensity, Raphaël Merlin was an obvious choice, as much for his extraordinary personality as for his ability to lead an institutional project that is a force of proposition in terms of societal impact. »
