The 73-year-old Brazilian-Portuguese pianist Maria Joao Pires announced her retirement from public performance and touring, which will come into effect immediately, her concert agency said. She is playing her farewell concert tonight with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, conducted by Bernard Haitink, performing Mozart’s last Piano Concerto K. 595.
