Both the Dallas and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestras have cancelled European tours planned for April and May 2016. While gunmen in the United States are killing here and there, the Dallas Symphony cited security concerns in Europe for the cancellation. The tour would have led the band to the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, England and Scotland. According to an official statement the CSO management sees « an elevated risk to the safety of our musicians and their families, guest artists, DSO personnel and traveling patrons”. DSO Music Director Jaap van Zweden does not to share this paranoia since he declared that, personally, he will continue to travel around the world.
At the same time the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra announced the cancellation of a six-city tour in Spain because of financial problems in that country. The FWSO’s Spanish tour would have been its first international trip since 1989. Four from the venues in Alicante, Madrid, Murcia, Oviedo, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Zaragoza were not able to confirm the concerts, so that the tour was no longer viable.
