Das Ensemble Los Elementos präsentiert mit Vendado Es Amor, No Es Ciego eine barocke Zarzuela des spanischen Komponisten José de Nebra (1702-1768). Die kaum bekannte Oper wird in Vollversion mit (spanischer) Narration und mit historischen Instrumenten aufgeführt.

José de Nebra ist einer der wichtigsten spanischen Komponisten des 18. Jahrhunderts, und seine 1744 uraufgeführte Komposition vereint italienische Operntradition des Barock mit spanischem Kolorit.

Die Handlung ist in der griechischen Mythologie angesiedelt: ein junger Hirte ist in die Nymphe Eumene verliebt, hat aber Diana gegenüber Keuschheit geschworen und verliebt sich dann auch noch in Venus. Als diese erfährt, dass er auch Eumene liebt, inszeniert sie eine furchtbare Rache mit Sturm, Gewitter und Erdbeben. Doch die wahre Liebe siegt. Der Hirte bekommt am Ende seine Eumene.

Der 1994 geborene spanische Countertenor und Dirigent Alberto Miguelez Rouco

dirigiert die stark rhythmisch geprägte Musik mit Impetus und einem guten Gespür für das Dramatische der Partitur. Das Nebeneinander von burleskem Folklorismus, und handlungszentriertem ‘hohem’ Opernstil italienischer Provenienz kann er nahtlos verbinden, auch wenn die Musik immer wieder durch den Erzähler mit manchmal überlangen Texten unterbrochen wird.

Chor und Instrumentalensemble Los Elementos nähern sich der Musik mit virtuoser Vielseitigkeit, so dass aus dem Ganzen ein anhaltend fesselndes Hörerlebnis wird. Die solistischen Leistungen lassen keinerlei Beanstandung zu, und so ist diese Einspielung ein, sehr überzeugendes Plädoyer für eine weitere Ausgrabung auf dem Gebiet der Barockzarzuela.

With Vendado Es Amor, No Es Ciego, the Ensemble Los Elementos presents a baroque zarzuela by the Spanish composer José de Nebra (1702-1768). This little-known opera is performed in full version with (Spanish) narration and with historical instruments.
José de Nebra is one of the most important Spanish composers of the 18th century, and his composition, first performed in 1744, combines the Italian opera style with Spanish colouring.
The plot is based on Greek mythology: a young shepherd is in love with the nymph Eumene, but has sworn chastity to Diana. But then he falls in love with Venus. When she learns that he also loves Eumene, she launches a terrible revenge with storm, thunderstorm and earthquake. But true love wins. In the end, the shepherd gets his Eumene.
The 1994 born Spanish countertenor and conductor Alberto Miguelez Rouco conducts the strongly rhythmic music with impetus and a good feeling for the drama of the score. He is able to seamlessly combine the juxtaposition of burlesque folklorism and action-centred ‘high’ opera style of Italian origin, even if the music is repeatedly interrupted by the narrator with sometimes overlong texts.
The choir and instrumental ensemble Los Elementos approach the music with virtuoso versatility, so that the whole becomes an enduringly captivating listening experience. The solo performances leave no room for complaint, and so this recording is a very convincing plea for another revival in the genre of baroque zarzuela.
