Mit dem Westfälischen Frieden, 1648 in Münster besiegelt, ging der sogenannte Dreißigjährige Krieg zu Ende. Europa wurde territorial und konfessionell neu geordnet. Der Zufall will, dass Heinrich Schütz im gleichen Jahr seine wegweisende Sammlung ‘Geistliche Chor-Music“’ veröffentlichte, die damalige Bilanz seines Schaffens und gleichsam Ausgangspunkt für sein Spätwerk.

Die zwei Damen und vier Herren vom Ensemble Polyharmonique nehmen sich dieser Sammlung mit viel Liebe zum stimmlichen Detail an. Die perfekte Balance der Stimmen lässt die herrliche Polyphonie von Schütz’ Musik bestens zur Geltung kommen. Das Ensemble hat seinen Namen wahrlich nicht gestohlen.

Es singt rhetorisch ausgefeilt, mit Sinn für die dramaturgische Ausgestaltung des Textes.

With the Peace of Westphalia, sealed in Münster in 1648, the so-called Thirty Years’ War came to an end. Europe was territorially and confessionally reorganised.
Coincidentally, Heinrich Schütz published his ground-breaking collection ‘Sacred Choral Music’ in the same year, the balance sheet of his oeuvre at that time and the starting point for his later works.
The two ladies and four gentlemen of the Ensemble Polyharmonique perform this collection with great attention to vocal details. The perfect balance of the voices allows the magnificent polyphony of Schütz’s music to unfold perfectly. The ensemble has truly not stolen its name and its singing is rhetorically polished, with a sense for the dramaturgical shaping of the text.
